Nude Cooking in Maryland

nigella_dcist.jpgNo, Nigella Lawson (above) is not involved in this one (it seems that she's busy at the Royal Society of Literature, according to Londonist), but the news headlines would be all the better if she were ...

Perhaps in an effort to make food sexy, a Maryland garden club in Frederick has produced a cookbook with recipes garnished with pictures of "nearly nude women" aged 55 to 70, the AP, via the W.Times, reports. It's not a local-grown idea, it comes from the 2003 film "Calendar Girls," the movie about a true story involving British womens club and charity they are raising cash for.

Fredrick's Green-walled Garden Club hopes to use proceeds from the 400-page book to raise money for city beautification projects. Perhaps this idea could be brought to D.C. to beautify public parks.

Yawn. Using naked pictures of average-looking people to raise money is already so dated ... Calendar Girls was about an event that took place at least a few years earlier, and groups have been copying the idea ever since. They frequently involve older people, probably under the assumption that their bodies are somehow "less sexual" than younger bodes, making the calendar "cute and fun" rather than prurient.

wow, lawson is not afraid of using her boobs to sell books at all!
