Post Metro Section Introduces 'Page 3'
When it comes to stemming the tide of decreases in daily circulation, the Post is willing to try just about anything. And today in the Metro section, they did just that.
The Post today rolled out their new "Page 3" feature in the Metro section, a page dedicated less to news and more to personal stories and reflections on life in the Washington area. Wrote the Post yesterday of the new feature:
[Page 3] is a space that will have many voices without being dedicated to any single thing. Sometimes it will deal with the parts of life that gnaw at us -- traffic and the ugly claptrap of the urban experience. Other days it might observe the beauty that surrounds us or the small things that bring joy. It's only Day 1, so we'll reserve judgement until at least Wednesday (unlike Erik Wemple at the City Paper, who will probably dedicate a few thousand words to tearing the feature a new one). It seems like a relatively solid idea to kick up circulation, though -- make readers stakeholders in their hometown paper, potential contributors instead of passive subscribers. Of course, we're hoping that this newfound feature won't take away from solid local reporting and analysis, which are already in short supply. It will introduce you to people who have jobs you've never noticed or always wondered about, to poignant moments seen through the single prism of one person's experience, to the wackiness that pervades our world.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of an effort to shovel the Post's godawful human interest stories to a dedicated section. I absolutely hate the human interest fluff that the Post sticks in the A-section when its a slow news day.
I love when dcist really wants to bash something, but they hold back because they sneak a peek of themselves in the mirror.
On an unrelated comment, sounds a lot like the weekend opinionist(tm) columns.....
Despite the disdain between the lines of most media for blogging, they seem to be gravitating closer and closer toward it.
"But you didn't go to journalism school! Your opinion isn't as important as mine!"
Anyone else find it amusing that "Page 3" is also the name of the British tabloid The Sun's, erm, pinup page? Go ahead, Google "Page 3." Not Safe For Work.
I like the Sunday Source. The columns about new fashion trends really turn me on, and the photos of cavorting young people are a big improvement over those dreary grainy B&W shots of suits and wire service pics of angry brown crowds.
