Shaw Gangs Agree To Truce
Yesterday's WUSA newscast brought an exclusive interview that'll be of interest to anyone living near Shaw: apparently the Fifth and O and Seventh and O crews have agreed to a truce. The linked video includes a group interview conducted by Bruce Johnson in which the gang members express bewilderment at the extent of their years-long feud, and hope for a lasting truce.
We certainly wish them the best of luck. Several current and former DCist staff members live in the area, including myself. Police tape and shell-casing markers have become an unnervingly common site around Seventh and O. And although the warring crews seemed primarily intent on victimizing one another, there's no question that innocent bystanders were at risk as well, as the February shooting of a 15 year-old girl at Seventh and O demonstrated.
Credit for brokering the truce goes to The Alliance Of Concerned Men, Scripture Cathedral Church and the Peaceoholics. And some credit for WUSA's coverage of the story has to go to Shaw's plentiful bloggers, who over the past year have begun consistently reaching out to local media.
So it's good news all around, and good luck to the newly-pacified gang members. However, we are left with one loose string: Bruce Johnson ended the video segment by warning of other D.C. gangs, including the "9th and O" crew. Unless the folks on their laptops in Azi's Cafe have banded together to form some sort of criminal enterprise, we have no idea what he could be talking about — unless it's the editorial stance of WUSA that every odd-numbered O Street intersection is a hotbed of criminal activity.

Just because you're headed west on O Street doesn't mean you're getting safer. Check the PSA crime maps for the past 18 months and you can track a lot of activity on the 7th/8th/9th/O/P/Q Street area. But it won't be the first time broadcast journalists get the numbers wrong.
Besides, "the 9th and O crew" sounds a lot edgier than "the P Street crew," which sounds a little too much like "Pee Street" and, as we all know, pee is stinky. It's that whole Mister Black/Mister Pink thing that Tarrantino did into the dirt.
Do you think the Peaceaholics can broker a truce between Columbia Heights gentrifiers and neighborhood hoodlums?
You keep your drycleaners and starbucks out of the neighborhood and you stop throwing rocks at cyclists.
I think they may have been referring to 8th & R crew...there is also 4th & R, KDP, 37th something or other boyz that come over to shaw....
I hope this is the first step towards a lasting peace.
Yay for the gang truce! I'm assuming part of the peace agreement includes splitting the profits from their drug/weapons sales? I would hate to see one side earning more money unfairly.
This does not bode well for the Sixth and O Crew.
Quick, send the DCPD to arrest them all now that the crossfire has subsided.
THIS IS INDEED ANOTHER PARODY!
All those "crews" are nothing compared to the up and coming...
Twenty-First & R Crew
Bands of gay guys walking streets at night marking their turf with ridiculous gay "fraternity" posters, and glossy cards for parties featuring gormless skeletons with their shirts off.
They all dress alike too, popped collar A&F polos (sometimes two or three of them on at one time), jeans that resemble denim that has slept with too much bleach, odd bracelets, and noisy flip flops (complete with previously injured feet with no remaining arch.)
They carry no guns or knives, but are armed with cockrings, Madonna & Cher filled iPods, A|X giftcards, and cell phones with thousands of entries (all with no last names... some with no first names... just labels like "hot top" and "emergency f*ck")
I'm telling you... it's a warzone. There's talk of them feuding with the 355 gang and the menacing Forest Glen Bitches.
NBDINZ:
If you're going to poke fun at gays, at least be funny. That was the least funny gay stereotype stream I've seen in quite a while.
nbdinz. You are a loser! I'm embarrassed that I actually got pissed off enough about your stolen bike to send it to multiple list serves and the media, not to mention my Council member and the Mayor's office. You are nothing but a attention whore. Take your snide comments back to your own site.
nbdinz...I think you mistakenly pointed your browser to DCist again. This is a "boring, unoriginal site" as you kept saying last week. Perhaps its time to unbookmark it?
menacing Forest Glen Bitches
I hear those people have started beefing with the Urbana Bad Asses. I guess the violence will shift from 7th Street in DC to I-270 in Maryland.
*Sigh*
so if this nbdinz is the same person that shut down the daily shiloh stories i say keep it coming in the name of ending dcist's war with churches in one section of the city. and inded the popped collar multiple polo's is a trend that needs to fade away and fast.
i'm actually pretty surprised that this story didn't turn into a race war like every other story does on dcist.
but i digress--i thought some of the things in #7 were funny. the c!ckring was out of line because those things are just hideous.
NBDINZ:
Hillman is a collar popping gay guy (he indicates this in his habitual commenting) so you need to be sensitive when saying things about gays. Stop being such a harsh asshole!
LOL
Anyway the truce is short lived because I heard about 6 or 7 gunshots near that gang turf.
