About Tonight

2007_0606_abouttonight.jpg

>> For those of you who prefer your music pantomimed, tonight's Air Guitar Competition at the 9:30 Club. should be right up your alley. Just because the guitars are made of air, doesn't mean they don't rock! And who knows? The winner of tonight's competition may very well end up in the winner's circle at the Air Guitar World Championship in Finland. You can say you saw them before they sold out to the corporate music machine. 7:30, $10.

>> PS 7's is opening their outdoor patio tonight with a special happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Chef and owner Peter Smith will have a $10 special that gets you two gourmet hot dogs and a microbrew.

>> Jewish Canadian hip-hop beat maker Socalled (aka Josh Dolgin) arrives at DC9 to spread the gospel that Klezmer music can be tough as he samples Eastern European Jewish singers and New York Yiddish vaudeville performers. He'll have a CD release party tonight for his new album, Ghettoblaster. Part of the Washington Jewish Music Festival, tickets are $15, or $10 if you're under 25 or have student ID.

>> Sherman Alexie reads from his new novel, Flight, a story of a troubled foster teenager who time travels. Tickets are $5 and include a free copy of the book -- we're told some will be available at the door, on a space-available basis. At Warehouse Theater. 7 p.m.

Regarding the Sherman Alexie event, the book is not free. The $5 tickets are available only with the purchase of the book. Both are available at the door.
