Judge Pearson Breaks Down on Stand

2007_0613_pants.JPGApparently traumatized by the memory of his long lost pants, administrative law Judge Roy Pearson began to cry while testifying in D.C. Superior Court yesterday afternoon. After calling several witnesses who testified that they stopped going to Custom Cleaners after having unsatisfactory business dealings with the shop, Pearson took the stand himself, and as he recounted the story of having the Chung family try to give him a pair of pants that were not his, he choked up and became teary, the Washington Times describes.

The Post's Emil Steiner has the best coverage of the trial, telling how, before the tears began, Pearson described in detail "his history of community service, his weight gain as a middle-aged man, his financial woes and his painful divorce" for presiding judge Judith Bartnoff. Marc Fisher couldn't stay away from Pearson either, particularly for putting an elderly woman on the stand who described a disagreement with Custom Cleaners' owners by comparing them to the Nazis. That's right. Nazis.

All told, we have reporters from across the country and at least five other countries here to witness this circus (though Steiner would be the first to point out that it's an incredibly boring circus). It looks like the live-blogging torch has been passed from Steiner to Fisher today, so head over to Raw Fisher or to WTOP's Neal Augenstein for frequent updates on Day 2 of the Pearson Pants Trial. It should be kicking off this very minute, with judge Pearson scheduled to be cross-examined by defense counsel Christopher Manning. We'll do our best to update if something noteworthy happens.

Apparently traumatized by the memory of his long lost pants,

I can think of no better way of starting off a sentence, except maybe by replacing "pants" with "anal virginity" and "traumatized" with "spontaneously combusted."

"his history of community service, his weight gain as a middle-aged man, his financial woes and his painful divorce"

Translation: fatty regularly tips 18% on the total bill, maxed out his credit card on strippers, his old lady found his Visa bill, and took him to the cleaners. Maybe SHE's the one who stole his pants.

That nazi crack threw me, though. Shouldn't he be saying that they're "persecuting him like Jesus?" Or maybe that's just a local politician thing.

How much are DC taxpayers paying for this?

""But I was in World War II as a WAC, so I think I can take care of myself. Having lived in Germany and knowing the people who were victims of the Nazis, I thought he was going to beat me up. I thought of what Hitler had done to thousands of Jews.""

Thousands of jews? How about thousands of thousands of jews. Although, maybe she's saying that Hitler himself beat up thousands of Jews. Not a historical fact I'm familiar with, but then again he was, by definition, just as bad as Hitler.

I really hope the judge takes him to task. This guy is an embarassment to the bench, the bar, the city, and whoever it was that appointed him to his position in the first place.

When this asshole's case is thrown out of court as the embarassing laughingstock that it is, can we exile him? From the planet?

Pearson is still receiving a pay check from the DC Government. He earns over $100k a year. That's nuts -- there's no other way to put it.

I was really floored by the Nazi comparison. The old bat has no idea what happened to the Jews in Germany. Ruined clothes or gas chambers? Take the clothes.

I wonder if the Reverend Willie Wilson will be calling for the dry cleaners heads to be rolling down the street like he did when one of his parishioners 'was disrespected' by a Korean merchant.

Courtrooms in this country really need to start observing Godwin's Law.

demonfafa, that is fantastic. seconded!

My favorite fact of the trial is that he's seeking $54 million on behalf of all DC residents for the horrible customer service he claims this dry cleaner provides. Now, I don't live in the guy's neighborhood and so would never use his cleaner, but I want him to win so I get my portion of that. $54 million/600,000 = $90 each. Even minus taxes, free cash I can use on dry cleaning!

I mean, he is going to give it to us, right? Since he's seeking it on our behalf.

This couple is spending their life savings defending themselves so this judge can have a therapy session in court? You can contribute to their defense fund at customcleanersdefensefund.com

A modern classic cry for help. Pity the poor judge; he needs not money, but a big hug!

Sommer, this will rival Paris Hilton's DUI for the trial of the century, I hope you win a Pulitzer for it. Keep us posted.

The Chung's attorney has a summary of the case on their website:

www.manning-sossamon.com/pantfacts.htm

Bill: Pearson is no longer listed as an administrative judge on the DC Government web site, and his bio has been removed as well.

Mike Licht: I thought that he was removed from his position and put on administrative duties but is still receiving his salary.

When do big Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson show up and testify? This Pearson is now as impressive as Paris Hilton with the cameras and their crews. Big Al just has to do a show up here for pants support and Jessie can pull off a prayer session with face time with the oppressed judge.

Did you see the pants?

They've got a lot of pleats, and TRIPLE belt loops in front.

I think he must have bought them from Chess King around 1987, or perhaps the International Male catalog.

Sharpton's too busy doing face time in LA over the Paris Hilton case. As soon as that case dies down and this case gets some more momentum, and camera coverage, he'll show up, particularly if Pearson loses his case.

Come on race card!

Monkeyrotica, you're an idiot. Black folks are not lining up behind Pearson.

The judge needs to rule on this case from the bench and stop wasting taxpayers' dollars.

From Fisher's column: "Pearson was starting his new job as a judge and therefore needed to start wearing suits again after a couple of years of unemployment."

????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah Pearson... he goes from unemployed to employed as a judge to suing for millions on behalf of the people to unemployed again. Such high peaks and low valleys on the road he's traveled.

Is Pearson black? For some reason I'd been thinking of him as white. This seemed more like white-man insanity than black-man insanity.

SWester: If Judge Pearson is removed from a position of responsibility, $100k a year is cheap. The city has to wait until the Pants-a-Thon is over before they sack him, probably for “Affecting adversely the confidence of the public in the integrity of government.” (DC Personnel Regulations, 1803.1(6).

“Being an incredibly embarrassing dork” is not, in itself, a firing offense.

Jackie C - I think the idiot here is you. Obviously Monkey was goofing on Sharpton's proclivity for playing the race card at every opportunity.

I have jury duty coming up, I sure hope I get such a high-charged, emotional, pants-related case!!

Isn't this a potential racist hate-crime? What would be said if a highly paid Asian judge were suing a small African-American-owned business?

Judge Roy Pearson’s Ex Files Suit Against Him Claiming World Was Never “Rocked”

In a cruel twist of fate Roy Pearson, the man who filed a $54 million lawsuit against a dry cleaner who lost his pants, now finds himself on the defensive. Pearson’s former girlfriend Melissa DeLoach has filed suit against him for failing to live up to his own lofty guarantees of coital performance.

“Quite frankly, my client feels duped,” said DeLoach’s attorney, J.D. Shuttelworth. “There were certain copulatory promises that were made by Mr. Pearson that simply never materialized. This breech of oral contract, so to speak, has left my client distraught. Compensation is in order.”

That compensation, $75 billion dollars, is to defray the pain and suffering that DeLoach claims never came into being as a result of Pearson’s lackadaisical effort.

The suit makes the following contentions:

* Although he did get slightly “jiggy-wid” Ms. DeLoach , Mr. Pearson never in fact “rocked her world.”
* Despite Mr. Pearson’s repeated claims to the contrary, Ms. DeLoach was never able to see her deity during intercourse.
* Mr. Pearson made repeated, mockingly rhetorical questions that insinuated that Ms. DeLoach does not know who her father is.

This is outragious and downright sickening. There are a lot of LOSERs like Pearson out there (like the woman who sued McDonalds for tens of millions and won because she spilled coffee on her lap and there is nothing in the cup that said it was hot) who try to see if they can get away with robbing other people or companies blind. The problem is the system and the judges that let this happened. In this case, it is worse because the plaintiff is also a judge who suppose to be the one to use the system for the betterment of society. Not only the case should be dismissed, he should be disbarred. It is really SICKENING!!!

I noticed that there are a lot of RACIST LOSERS LIKE KCinDC on this posts.

Also, whether they defendants like OJ or plaintiffs like Pearson, the judges always try not to be called racists so they ended giving up justice for them.
