SAVOR as an event is no joke. With 70+ breweries each bringing some of the country’s best beers, food pairings fit for the finest restaurants, and a mountain of cheese and oysters, it is easy to see why the tickets go so fast. But I love the week leading up to SAVOR almost as much because all those breweries are in town hosting events and parties at your favorite bars. All of the beer, none of the formal attire!
Starting Sunday, bars all over the city host both local and out-of-market breweries and try to do events that go a little beyond the typical “steal a pint” type boringness. We tried to pick a range of events to highlight but for the complete listing, check out DCBeer’s full coverage and calendar.

Scion Restaurant, Crios, and DCBeer.com team up for the third installment of their blind beer tasting series. For this event, they’ve decided to change up the rules a bit. Rather than vote for a winner, they’re challenging you, the consumer and budding beer expert, to figure out which beer is which. They’ll provide clues and tasting notes on all 24 beers. Your job will be to match the beers with the correct taps. Attendees with the most correct answers on their scorecard will be awarded brewery swag. Guests may turn in scorecards individually or as a group. Individual and group submissions will not compete against each other.
The winning scorecards, and the identities of the beers, will be announced at 8:00 pm in both the restaurant and via Twitter (@dcbeer, @criosmodmex, @scionrestaurant). You do not need to be present to win. Tickets are not required.
All beers (see draft list below) will be available in 4 ounce and full size pours. Additionally, they will feature non-sour beers from each brewery at 1/2 price for the duration of the event.
