Breaking News: Heurich House Saved, Will Stay Open to Public
DCist received word last night that the Heurich House, widely known as the Brewmaster's Castle, has been saved from being sold for private use, and will thus remain open to the public. Citing a press release emailed by Gary Heurich, over $100,000 has been raised from nearly 2,000 donations over the past 44 days, and while that didn't meet the $250,000 that was needed by yesterday, the cooperative lender has allowed for an imminent refinancing of the Castle's $5.5 million mortgage.
We'll be bringing you a more detailed post as soon as we get more info. We just wanted to get the good news to our readers, as well as a big thank you to those of you who helped spread the word, visited the house, and donated funds. This has been a fantastically inspiring grassroots effort, and we're glad to see that DCist co-founder Mike Grass' great-great grandfather's wood carvings aren't going to be gutted from a gorgeous piece of District history.

Perfect! I can't wait to see the place...I hadn't had a chance to make it before.
Also, you might want to change 'solid' to 'sold'. :)
Thanks to all of those who have come through the house the past few weeks for a tour and/or contributed needed donations. The outpouring of support has been truly wonderful.
oof, noted and changed. thank you for the heads up - and enjoy your visit to the House!
Now, here's to hoping they come up with some sort of marketing plan to make some money by (widely) renting it for events or something, so they don't find themselves in this mess again.
I say get back to its roots and turn the place into a brew pub. we need a good brewery in town and what better place than the brewmaster's castle?
That's awesome! I went through the house a month or so ago after I saw DCist mention it. That old German furniture is really fantastic.
