Tonight DCist Celebrates Butterstick

Butterstick!Tonight is the night -- we'll be celebrating Butterstick's one-year of cuteness at Chief Ike's Mambo Room in Adams Morgan, 1725 Columbia Road, NW. And in his honor, we've gotten some good drink specials lined up -- $5 Captain Morgan drinks, $4 Paulaner Hefeweizen's, and $3 Pabst drafts. From what the zoo folks tell us, Butterstick loves his Pabst. There will also be some good music on both floors.

And yes, we do have a winner for the contest. They shall be emailed shortly. As for the answers, they were:

1) Which bloggers (names or name of blog) coined the name "Butterstick"?

It was Catherine Andrews and Tom Lee of Unrequited Narcissism that did the duty. Many people assumed it was DCist or Wonkette.

2) On what day did Butterstick make his official public debut?

Butterstick was debuted to the Friends of the National Zoo and the media early on, but his first public viewing was on December 8, 2005. We tried to get tickets, but the online system crashed on us. We didn't even get an invite to the media showing. Hmph.

3) How many votes did the name "Tai Shan" eventually receive in the zoo's online voting contest?

"Tai Shan" mustered up 88,245 votes, a mere 44 percent of the total.

So, drop on by. It's not pouring, it's not hot as hell, and there won't be eight-year-olds throwing firecrackers at you. Butterstick demands that you come.
