the police escorted hazmat pickup trucks have been going down connecticut avenue every weekday morning at 9am for the last two or three weeks, today they went back up connecticut around 1pm....anyone have any idea what they're for?

Last two days in a row, 2 pickup trucks with HAZMAT markings the logo "JEMCO" on the side have received a police escort, including cruisers and "K9" SUVs, up Connecticut ave at a high rate of speed. Somewhere around Woodley Park right now.

Etete, the ethiopian restaurant on 9th NW, now has an upstairs. So what was once a tiny and crowded establishment is now pretty roomy. I got seated right away on a Friday night at 7:30. Usually that would have been at least a 30 minute wait where you have to hound the staff to remember you're even there.

Blue Duck Tavern at 24th and M St NW was on fire yesterday night. We were having dinner there when we had to be evacuated. The fire dept came and using chain saws and axes broke apart most of the kitchen to find the fire. Cant find anything about it today online.

Did a small tornado rip through Takoma DC? As this afternoon's storm came through, we heard a loud noise and looked outside to see the roof coming off a storage building @ Kansas & Blair. The roof was hanging over the CSX/Metro tracks, then was blown again down onto Kansas Ave, which is currently blocked off. It looked to us like some of it could have landed on the tracks. We notified the authorities immediately, but they didn't feel the need to check the tracks. Trains are still rolling through full speed, but a passerby just told me he had just been at Providence Hospital and had seen uprooted trees flying around.

Due to some medical emergency at Farragut North, the Red Line between Dupont Circle and Judiciary Squares is operating on one track only. To be clear both the Shady Grove bound and the Glenmont bound trains are sharing the same track. Expect major delays.
