How's it hangin', everybody? Now that Obama's finally selected his running mate, we can all get back to talking about important things, like shaved pandas and where we're going to get the capital needed to open up new locations of Junkpunchers. Wait, what? You say that there's now some sort of convention that's going on in Denver? And that there's another one right after that in Minneapolis/St. Paul? Oh. Well, regardless, we'll stay vigilant and......

We're here in Denver for the Democratic National Convention, which kicks off tomorrow. We were too wiped out to attend last night's big Media Welcome Party at Elitch Gardens (though there's some evidence we may not have gotten in anyway), but we can tell you that the city of Denver set off an impressive fireworks display over the big bash at around 9:30 p.m. Apart from the actual work of adopting a platform and......

Welcome back to another edition of What's That You Say?, where the comments we feature are almost as good as the lunch at Eastern Market on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We start not on the Hill, but on U Street. It really seems like there's few topics that get people's opinions going like the venerable Ben's Chili Bowl, celebrating its 50th birthday this month. And whether you find the restaurant indispensable or you want to......

It's Monday, so you know what that means - another hearty helping of the witty best and hilarious worst of your contributions to our little nook of the interwebs. So pull yourself away from refreshing those Olympic results for one second and...dive in. John Edwards' affair was probably a bad decision on the part of the former senator and presidential candidate. But as Burleith points out in our Comment of the Week, his staff's damage......

Two DCist writers will be on the Kojo Nnamdi Show today at noon, discussing the local restaurant scene on this first day of Restaurant Week. Our new Food and Drink Editor, Jamie Liu, and Assistant Arts Editor Missy Frederick (representing the Washington Business Journal, where she's a reporter) will join Washingtonian Magazine's Food and Wine Editor Todd Kliman. They'll talk about how the current economy is affecting business, as people decide to eat out less,......

He's a little embarrassed that I'm pimping his article here, but I thought our readers might like to know that our esteemed jazz critic, Sriram Gopal, has his first article published in Modern Drummer magazine today. That a DCist writer got a freelance piece published is hardly a big deal -- that happens all the time. But Sriram's story is too good not to share. See, he's a really big music geek, and a drummer,......

Howdy everyone, and welcome to another hootin', hollerin' edition of What's That You Say? It certainly was an interesting morning on Thursday, between the vigilante turtle and the dog-killing drug raid at the home of the Mayor of Berwyn Heights. It's a good thing MWP was around to put the mayor's amount of dope in the proper perspective - hence, our Comment of the Week: I think comparing a giant tub of mustard from CostCo......

Welcome back to your usual post-weekend comment-o-rama. It's the Monday morning fix that (probably) won't get you fired from the office. With that said, let's do it to it, good buddies. This week's Comment of the Week from MrTinDC unsurprisingly concerned a certain conservative pundit and a certain incident involving his car. It's hilarious that crotchety old windbag Novak drives a Corvette. Is it a convertible? If so, I'd be concerned about a serious combover......

It's quite warm out there, eh commentarians? We can only handle so much humidity. Instead, we parked ourselves in front of the A/C, blasted it up to maximum cool, and threw together your comment roundup. Feel free to send all thanks in the form of popsicles and inflatable swimming pool toys. To start the madness: it seems as if Union Station and Silver Spring aren't the only places where photographers are getting hassled about taking......

On Tuesday we noted the death of Free Ride, the Washington Post Express blog that covered local D.C. news formerly helmed by DCist co-founder Mike Grass. Free Ride came to an end just a few months after Grass exited for Politicker, which took him to New York City. We also meant to note that Rob Goodspeed, the former DCist editor who co-founded this web site with Grass, is also moving away from the District. Goodspeed......

A big aloha to all the esteemed members of the commentariat joining us for another edition of What's That You Say?. This week, we're featuring a high concept version of the Comment of the Week - IMGoph felt the urge to "live-comment" his reading of the Outdoor Outside magazine story which named Washington as the "best town in America." Unfortunately, he found that Outdoor Outside could really, really use a fact checker - prep those......

You can now follow DCist on Twitter so you'll know when we add good stuff to the site. As many of you no doubt know, Twitter allows you to keep in touch with friends with short updates via the web or SMS. For now, the DCist Updates Twitter feed is not automated -- we're doing it manually so that we can decide which new posts to send out so that you aren't overloaded with a......

Hey there commentariat, and welcome to a special four-day version of the Say. Hopefully your government mandated three-day weekend was filled with more heartwarming moments under umbrellas and fewer power outages. Regardless of how your Independence Day weekend was spent, the week leading up to it was certainly a busy one in comment-ville. This week's Comment of the Week comes from SystemError, who, upon learning that the D.C. Council endorsed the use of voting rights......

Another weekend is in the books. Whether you spent your time enjoying the Folklife Festival, D.C. United crushing the Los Angeles Beckhams, or just trying not to get a sunburn (we failed miserably on that one) - we're sure that you're ready for a little taste of the DCist Monday tradition of the week that was in comment-land. Obviously, the biggest news this week was the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court striking down the......

It was a very busy week for commenting here at the good ol' DCist - and with a metric ton or two of insightful and witty words to get to, there's just no time to waste with any sort of introduction. So, off we go! This week's Comment of the Week goes to lp2k, who probably isn't too far off regarding the District's planning process for a potential city-wide bus terminal near L'Enfant Plaza in......

Heisann, commenters. Hopefully, your weekend was spent enjoying a nice cool beverage and a dip in the pool. Or maybe you spent some time taking in the experience of the Capital Pride festivities. Or perhaps you were just busy trying to get back the hours and hours that Metro commuting took from your free time this past week. In any case, it's Monday. And while that means a return to the chains of your desks......

Spring was nice for the three or four weeks it lasted, wasn't it? After all, it seemed like just a couple weeks ago that the it was 72 and clear. (Oh, wait, it was.) And now we're in for a good three or four months of sweating our previous night's beer intake out on our walk to work. Here's to three-shower days, D.C. In any case, we must carry on highlighting your brightest observations, which......

Bonjour, our sublime commentariat. It's time to call roll on our favorites from your last week of home-cooked pronouncements. The D.C. Council might want to allow "lunatics" to marry, but Timmy Tucker thinks the language just needs some small modifications to bring it up to date. Thankfully, he decided to share these suggestions with us - it's our Comment of the Week: I think the legal definition of "lunatic" should be derived from it's original......

Happy Memorial Day from What's That You Say? headquarters - we hope you're enjoying whatever it is today that's not working. But of course, we're still here, providing the most interesting of your contributions to the world of DCist. On Wednesday, we brought you the story of Noah Meyerson, whose persistence is just adding to a year of hell at the Office of Tax and Revenue - this time the revelation that the agency erroneously......

Konnichi wa, good people. Welcome to yet another exciting edition of What's That You Say? One comment thread this past week really rang true with us here at What's That You Say?, and no, it wasn't about Nissan Pavilion, marching on housing projects, or even the pseudo-fourth day of Ice Creampocolypse (although that was important). No, this thread was about something so neurotic, that we were convinced that no one else really thought about it.......

DCist was pleased to learn today that we've been selected as the official blog to represent the District of Columbia at this year's Democratic National Convention in Denver. DCist will be part of the State Blogger Corps, which is a new cadre of bloggers who cover state and local politics that the Democratic National Committee has invited to sit with their own delegations on the convention floor. You can find a full list of......

G'day, fair commentariat. It's once again time to scan the DCist universe for the best of your contributions from the past week. There are some of us who, every once in a while, come up with something witty to share with the world, and can be happy with that. But just like any other creative endeavor, there are those of us who strive to take commenting to another strata of aesthetic glory. And even......

When we were compiling our weekly roundup of your comments this week, we couldn't help but notice that there was a whole lot of yakking about transit issues. Whether it was your overwhelming reaction to an interview with David Alpert regarding his map of Metro in 2030, applauding John Catoe's attempts to regulate buses' sloppy stopping, or begrudging upcoming Green and Yellow Line delays - it was the week to talk transportation. So it's only......

Team DCist came out in force for Saturday's 2008 Servathon, presented by Greater DC Cares and Fannie Mae. About 3,200 volunteers spent the day painting, cleaning and pruning the campuses of 39 D.C. public schools. Team DCist was dispatched to Harriet Tubman Elementary in Columbia Heights, and we all had a blast sprucing up the courtyard, repainting the playground, and brightening up some dull brown lockers in classrooms. Thanks to everyone who participated, especially our......

What's happening out there in comment-land? After another soggy weekend, it may dishearten you to know that we're slated for much of the same for at least the beginning of this week. But don't worry, all that means is that you can stay dry inside, cuddle up close to your keyboards, and keep pounding out those oh-so-witty remarks that we love you for. It's been duly noted that we here at What's That You Say?......

It's Monday, and you know what that means. Comments galore! Last week Pope Benedict XVI was visiting Washington. Having the leader of one of the largest religions in the world in the city was kind of a big deal. We here at What's That You Say? totally get that. But pope-a-mania also got a bit tiring, clogging our news feeds over the past week or two. Now that he's gone, we can get back to......

Color us honored! When we thumbed through the massive, two-lb. "Best Of D.C." edition of this week's Washington City Paper, we were surprised and delighted to find that publication's readers had awarded us "Best D.C. Web Site." Best locally-focused blog, OK, but best web site? Washingtonpost.com was a runner up? Allow all of us here at DCist HQ to deliver a collective "gee golly." That was just awfully nice of you, City Paper readers. Make......

How's it going D.C.? We're here once again to highlight our completely non-objective picks for the week's best commentary. Hopefully, everyone went outside and enjoyed the warm(ish) weather last week - here at What's That You Say?, we took the chance to eat curbside, air out the apartment, and catch our first Nationals game of the season. But with the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer, there's bound to be a spike in......

Even though our fearless leader took the week off, we know we can always count on our just-as-fearless commenters never to need a break. You're tireless, people! On Friday, guest editor Jason Linkins found an interesting picture of a sign detailing "visitor information" somewhere in this fine city. Of course, you took this as your cue to make ingratiating attempts to translate the text-free signage - we expected nothing less. That said, the best interpretation......
