It must really almost be summer, because Screen on the Green, the annual film series held on the National Mall, has announced their line-up. Once again, the AOL City Guide gets the scoop, thanks to the unholy march of media conglomeration. The good news is that unlike last year, which served up a lot of camp and guilty pleasure fare such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, this year's selections include two of the best films ever made, two grossly underappreciated gems, and one that's total camp (of course). As always, we'll preview each of the films as the dates draw closer. For now, whet your appetite on the schedule:

As the air gets chillier and the days get shorter, D.C. residents’ thoughts turn to Halloween and tales of the weird and the macabre – like hearings on congressional page scandals and polls predicting midterm election outcomes. OK, so Washington, D.C., is not the first city to come to mind when you think of horror and suspense. It doesn’t even compare to New Orleans' Gothic backdrops or London’s fog-filled streets and alleyways. But on the silver screen, D.C. has played host to a veritable who's who of madmen and monsters, as well as some fine extraterrestrial mayhem.
Though a tad blurry, we can forgive Flickr user furcafe since he caught this slightly surrealist moment at the first Screen on the Green this summer, during The Day the Earth Stood Still. If it ain't too hot out for you, you're probably crazy enough to brave the heat advisory and check out tonight's showing of Bullitt. And if it starts to cool down, Steve McQueen will be there to bring back the hott. Check out the rest of the Screen on the Green schedule here.
It's the moment that those who are spending summer in the city have been waiting for: Screen on the Green! Even underage interns can come out for the cinematastic fun. Now in its seventh year of converting the National Mall into an outdoor movie theatre, this year's line-up proves to be just as entertaining as the one from last year.
