In the annals of heartbreaking, senseless violence in the District of Columbia, this one ranks right up there at the top. WJLA and the Post both have stories about the shooting death of 18-year-old Tanganika Stanton in Northeast over the weekend. The story D.C. police are telling is that Stanton was approached by 19-year-old Terrence Jones while she was sitting outside her home eating a hamburger. In an apparent attempt to flirt with her, Jones......

>> One of the funniest comedic performers out there today, Amy Sedaris is at the Historic Sixth and I Synagogue tonight to promote her recent book, I Like You, at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are no longer available, but a few seats can apparently still be had at the door for $25 -- a small price to pay to be entertained by the woman who brought us the wonder that is Jerri Blank. >>......

We missed this when it happened a couple of weeks ago, but is it really ever too late to point and laugh at New Yorkers? We didn't think so. So, people are probably aware that Five Guys franchises are proliferating across the Eastern U.S. like nuclear weapons in central Asia. The greasy, peanut-laden fingers of our locally born burger stand have spread as far as Delafield, Wisconsin; Nashville, Tennessee; and Miami, Florida. They've even broken......

By DCist contributor Elisabeth Grant D.C. can be an expensive place to eat lunch. A meal from Cosi will set you back $8, any sit-down place is at least twice as much that, and even if you're just going for coffee, a grande pumpkin spice latte (the most delicious beverage on the planet) will put you out over $4. While many of the folks who work on or around the Hill, like those with expense......

We read all the local columnists, so you don't have to. This week we find meat-eaters being compared to Michael Vick, a lot of bum opinions on city schools and District residents being called "granola." Courtland Milloy: According to Milloy's Wednesday column in the Post, your choice to eat a hamburger isn't all that different than Michael Vick's decision to brutally fight, torture and kill dogs for money. "We'll kill a duck, deer, turkey --......

You may have heard: some team called the Redskins plays their season opener this weekend. It seems as though that team has some sort of local following, so attention may start to shift away from baseball in the region soon. (Ahh, sarcasm: the sweet sustaining humor for those sick enough to still be reading - and writing - Nats posts this far into a lost year.) It’s a shame. If things had gone slightly differently......

Don’t misunderstand. We are well aware of the fact that Palena, Harry’s Tap Room, Sonoma and many others in the D.C. area sling a pretty good hamburger. But when the Bosnians do it, the burger is elevated from mere junk-food/pub food status to an ethnic cuisine epiphany. Cosmopolitan—a Bosnian carryout in a shopping center on N. Kings Highway in Alexandria—serves a terrific pljeskavica, or "Bosnian Burger." An enormous slab of mildly spiced beef is sandwiched......

Although the advent of the real-time Gawker Stalker map has freaked out certain celebrities who would prefer that their Us Weekly-devouring public not know that they're dining at New York's Tao or taking their fruit-monikered babies out for walks on Fifth Avenue, DCist has no qualms about letting its readers know where local celebs hang out. And there's no area celeb more freshly minted than George Mason University basketball coach Jim Larranaga, who just yesterday......

The perfect hamburger. ETYMOLOGY: from d vus, god and Late Latin bov nus, from Latin b s , bov-, cow It starts as a dull throb deep from within whatever portion of our psyche perceives hunger and craving. At first......
