It seemed like things couldn't get more difficult for the Washington Capitals this week. The Southeast Division leaders were missing enough talented players to field a respectable power play. Alexander Semin, a former first-round pick who had been leading the NHL in scoring, was injured. Sergei Fedorov -- frequent All-Star, holder of multiple Stanley Cup rings, and the highest scoring Russian-born player in NHL history -- was injured. Boyd Gordon, a former first round draft......

Someone fell on the tracks at the Friendship Heights Metro station at around noon. Various reports indicate that the person was struck by the train and that they are unconscious, but so far no more details are available about their condition. You should expect major delays in both directions on the Red line due to this incident, which is being compounded by an earlier switch malfunction outside of Rhode Island Avenue. that's been fixed, but......

Breaking from WMATA: Someone's been struck by a train at Suitland Metro station. The reports we're getting is that the unidentified individual went completely under the train, and that the odds they are still alive are slim. The station is temporarily closed and trains are turning back at Naylor Road station. There is currently no train service between Naylor Road and Branch Avenue, and the Green line is going to be seriously delayed in both......

View Larger Map Be aware that traffic heading north on Massachusetts Ave. NW this evening could still be experiencing even more backup than usual due to an earlier scaffolding collapse at the Foxhall Condominiums. Two construction workers were injured -- one with a serious head injury, the other with two broken legs -- when a 30-foot-tall scaffolding behind the building at 4200 Mass. Ave. NW fell down while the workers were atop it. The collapse......

A car struck a Metrobus at 16th and U Streets SE, near Good Hope Rd. SE, at 11:50 a.m. this morning, resulting in 16 people reported injured. The Post says the driver of the car ran a red light before it hit the bus. Two people were in the car, and a driver and 13 passengers were on the B2 route bus. All of the injuries appear to be minor.......

Just yesterday, the first reader question Hockey News columnist Adam Proteau answered about the entire NHL came from a Caps fan frustrated about the lack of information about Brian Pothier's recovery from a serious concussion. Pothier missed the second half of last season and all of the playoffs, and was believed close to retirement. But one frustrated fan wanted to know for sure. You've got to love the quick and thorough response to an online......

Earlier this afternoon D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty made his first public appearance in several days (since re-injuring his fractured foot) to announce that he had secured funding to keep the D.C. Public Library system open full-time. Last week DCPL head Ginnie Cooper said that staff budget reductions would force the library system to shutter its branches on Fridays and reduce hours on other weekdays. At the time, Mayor Fenty said he was committed to locating......

Poor Mayor Fenty: he just can't seem to get back on his feet. Or his left foot, to be more specific. WTOP reports that the mayor fell off of his bicycle yesterday, re-injuring the foot he fractured playing football on the beach and forcing him to cancel his public schedule for the next few days. Fenty had continued to bike and swim since the original injury, which doesn't exactly seem wise, but it hardly matters......

If you ran in to a lot of backed up traffic downtown early this morning, the Post explains why: D.C. firefighters rescued a construction worker on the ninth floor of an 11-story building at 1999 K Street NW. The worker fractured his right ankle after a fall at about 7:30 a.m., and because the building does not have working elevators, fire crews had to use a construction crane to get the man down to the......

Photos by Sommer Mathis A construction worker has been injured in a building collapse in the 1400 block of Belmont Street NW. The worker was operating a Bobcat in a four story apartment at 1417 Belmont ST NW, which was under renovation, when the building partially collapsed. He's currently being taken in an ambulance to a nearby hospital. Streets around the building have been shut down as fire officials establish a collapse zone. Belmont......
