The Redskins may have been eliminated from the playoffs with a Falcons win yesterday afternoon, but a 10-3 win against division-rival Philadelphia Eagles gave fans who are still paying attention an excuse to smile.

The Redskins’ Success Formula: The last time these two teams met, the ‘Skins seemed to have it all figured out. Washington won 23-17, and they did it by beating Philadelphia on the ground. The Redskins ran the ball 44 times, while the Eagles had only 18 carries. The 'Skins finished with 203 rushing yards to the Eagles’ 58. Neither team had turnovers, and the Eagles actually posted a slightly better passing game –- Donovan McNabb and Jason Campbell’s numbers were almost identical, with McNabb completing 17 of 29 passes for 20 more yards than Campbell had on 16 of 29 passes. And, of course, there was that Antwaan Randle El-Chris Cooley touchdown.

The cold weather - and holiday festivities - descended upon Gothamist. The Rockefeller Christmas tree was lit, Broadway stagehand finally ended their strike, and NASCAR decided to run their victory lap through Times Square. There were disturbing photographs revealing the working conditions in which many city manholes are produced and ninjas were also a hot topic, either robbing homes or entering into alibis. But the city was really rocked by how Rudy Giuliani's visits...
Southeast Jerome. Sheriff Gonna Getcha. Coach Janky Spanky. The Ghost of Southeast Jerome. Most of the 2005 season, and a few times last year, Clinton Portis showed that he wasn't only electric on the field by holding press conferences dressed up as ridiculous characters, who he named and gave purposes. The get ups were such a hit that they even made a t-shirt about them (hey, we all knew that Snyder wouldn't let a chance...
Earlier this week, Washington safety Pierson Prioleau spoke about his own season-ending knee injury as an ominous sign of setbacks to come. He seems prescient now. On Sunday afternoon, the Redskins took themselves out of contention early and often as the Philadelphia Eagles turned the match into a low-effort rout. Along the way, Washington gave up big plays, took the business end of a throttling fluke fumble, and, in the snakebitten way Prioleau described, suffered...
A lead story in the Post's Metro section this morning is the stuff to either make you queasy or curious. It involves one house, eight entomologists, and 70,000 bugs of assorted variety. It also features a man paid $11 to sit in a lawn chair with a patch of skin exposed for up to eight hours a day, a guinea pig for testing insect repellants. This isn't the stuff that real news is made...
For the first time since 1999, the suddenly hot Washington Redskins are going to the playoffs after a sweet but hard fought new year victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. Eat it, Phillyist! Murders in Washington Area Increase: While the District's murder tally for 2005 dropped for the second year running, homicides in the area rose as Prince George's County and Fairfax County increased their share, writes the Post. The region recorded 466 killings in 2005,...
Two weeks ago, a stirring home win over the Philadelphia Eagles resulted in the Washington Redskins notching a respectable 5-3 record. Entrenched in the NFC playoff picture, Head Coach Joe Gibbs lauded his team’s play and spoke of the opportunity they now had to compete in “big games” instead of desperate games. That was two weeks ago. Circa today, the Redskins are nursing their wounds after a second critical late-game loss placed their season in...
It’s so nice to get to talk about someone else’s TO problem for a change. If you’ve only recently been rescued from a near-fatal spelunking accident, here’s the story: two years ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were weary of playing bridesmaid to the NFC Champion. To get over that hump, they solicited the services of a preening, narcissistic headline generator named Terrell Owens. With Owens on board, the Eagles went to a Superbowl, and ever...
What a pity. DCist encouraged you to have faith this weekend, believing that the Redskins would beat the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field. Yet a bold, late-fourth-quarter throw to Chris Cooley came down in the hands of opposing safety Brian Dawkins—all but icing the game for the Eagles. Whether the ball just got a little too much air under it in the swirling winds of Landover, or had too much juice on it from...
When last we spoke of the Redskins, it was intimated that this column may show up today, boldly predicting, perhaps even guaranteeing a Redskins win this Sunday. Now, why would we do that? Are we crazy? And isn’t using the term “we” getting awfully presumptuous? It’s not like DCist’s editors have signed off on some kind of crazy prediction plan. They want to "grow a credible brand" and "vertically integrate" and otherwise please our Gothamist...
Thomas Boswell may namecheck “Amazing Grace” in his profile on Coach Joe Gibbs, but best we can say about the Redskins, floundering in the NFC’s lower depths at 3-7, is that they’re neither lost nor found, just looking to turn a corner on this season and get the “ship” righted. Coming out of their battle with the Philadelphia Eagles at the Linc this Sunday, the 28-6 score says everything and nothing about the season thus...
When Joe Gibbs became the head coach of the Washington Redskins, way back in the early days of the First Coming, things did not begin well for the young Don Coryell acolyte. That first season, the Redskins sputtered and flamed out during their first five games, losing all of them and descending into the cellar of the NFC East. However, over the rest of the season, Gibbs righted the ship and won eight of eleven,...
