We chatted with local punks The Points back in November, following the release of their excellent self-titled album, which highlights the vocal growls, guitar howls and sheer adrenaline that has always characterized their live shows. Even within the nine months since that last interview, they've kept up a high rate of productivity. In between a long list of tour dates and the relocation of singer/guitarist Geo White, the band has still managed to start work on a second full-length album. In addition, they're releasing a 7" just to keep fans from feeling the void where good and fast garage rock should be.

The philosophy behind The Points is deceptively simple: give the people down and dirty, straightforward, gut-punching rock 'n' roll. The deception lies in that very few bands who have discovered the complexities and twists of modern rock actually choose such a no-fuss approach. The Points know what kinds of bands probably got their fans into rock in the first place: wicked drum beats, head-banging guitar riffs, catchy hooks and a need to take out that anger against your girlfriend. When singer/guitarist Geo White growls lines like, "I don't like you, don't care what you say," you truly believe that you wouldn't want to catch this guy on a bad day.

We don't understand why Benjy Ferree is not a big star. The Three Stars alum plays roosty indie gems and has great stage presence — he's a funny and engaging and a strong performer. He's toured with Spoon and The New Pornographers and is signed to Domino Records (Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, etc). And his band is basically a D.C. supergroup, with Laura Harris of The Aquarium, Amy Domingues and Jonah Takagi from Garland of Hours, and Drew Mills from Blood Feather. And the new disc, Leaving the Nest, is great. But he doesn't seem to get much notice.
